چکیده

Malaria is one of the most serious vector-borne diseases, affecting millions of people mainly in the tropics. In spite of major efforts undertaken for its control, through drug treatment and vector control, an increase in malaria incidence has occurred in the last 30 years, due to poor socio-economic conditions and development of drug and insecticide resistance in parasites and vectors, respectively1. Insecticide treated nets have been introduced in several countries for protection against mosquitoes and for malaria control. Treated nets not only provide a considerable degree of personal protection to individual net users, but, if used by whole community, can substantially reduce the infective vector population2. Insecticide treated bednets using pyrethroid insecticides are effective in reducing malaria morbidity and overall child mortality in a variety of epidemiological conditions3.

Introduction: Malaria is still one of the most important communicable diseases in the world. The main measure for vector control is using insecticides as residual spraying and recently impregnated bednet with pyrethroid insecticides. Comparative study on the efficacy of pyrethroid impregnated torn bed nets (lambdacyhalothrin and bifenthrin) and Deet against malaria vector, Anopheles stephensi,...

Evaluation of bifenthrin treated mosquito nets against anopheline and culicine mosquitoes.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES The main rural malaria vector Anopheles culicifacies has developed resistance to dichloro diphenyl trichloroethane (DDT), hexachloro cyclo hexane (HCH) and malathion in the state of Haryana in northern India. An alternative synthetic pyrethroid insecticide bifenthrin was therefore evaluated on mosquito nets against anopheline and culicine mosquitoes, in two villages Ja...

Laboratory and semi-field evaluation of Bacillus thuringiensis (Bioflash®) against Anopheles stephensi (Diptera: Culicidae) in an endemic malarious area of Iran

Background: Anopheles stephensi is considered to be the main malaria vector in the Middle East area including Iran. We aimed to evaluate the efficiency of a granule 10% formulation of Bacillus thuringiensis against this species under laboratory and semi-field conditions in an endemic malarious area of Iran. Method: After collecting mosquitos ...

Susceptibility of Anopheles stephensi against five current chemical insecticides

Introduction: Malaria is still an important health problem in southern Iran. Anopheles stephensi is one of the most important vectors of malaria, especially in urban areas. Because of long time of chemical insecticides against vectors in endemic areas and their potential resistance to such chemicals, it is necessary that vectors continuously to be assessed against susceptibility level. We...

Wash Resistance and Bioefficacy of Alpha-cypermethrin Long Lasting Impregnated Nets (LLIN-Interceptor®) against Anopheles stephensi using Tunnel Test

BACKGROUND The Long-lasing insecticide impregnated nets (LLINs) is considered as an effective tools for malaria vector control. The aim of this study was to evaluate the residual efficacy of alpha-cypermethrin long lasting impregnated nets (LLIN-Interceptor(®)) against Anopheles stephensi using tunnel test. METHODS The wash-resistance of Interceptor(®) nets were assessed under laboratory cond...
